Sutton Family Governess?

Martha E. Sutton (abt. 1833- bet. 1900-1910), known as Mattie or Matt, was the second child of Wesley Sutton and Mary Jane Word. Her father was a farmer near Shelbyville, Bedford County. In 1861 she married William Nance, a farmer in Bedford County. The couple had five children.

Martha E. Sutton and Mary S. Sutton (TSS 017) were distant cousins. The strong resemblance between their two samplers, worked two years apart, suggests that they were worked under the same teacher.
