Lucinda Ann Grant (1799-1833) was born in Surry Co., NC. She married John McCroskey, a sheriff and farmer. She had six children; three died in infancy. Her daughter, Malinda Ann McCroskey, worked two samplers that share characterists with Lucinda's.

Lucinda may have worked her sampler in NC. It features four alphabets and a large sprig of satin stiched roses. The roses, and her name, which is in ink, may have been added later.
