Biography:
Ann Maria Dunlap (1828-1871) was the eldest child of Thomas Dunlap and Ann Fauvie. The family came to Davidson Co. sometime between 1830 and 1840. Ann married George Frank Jones and gave birth to eight children. Knowing the value of a good education, she sent some of her daughters to the Nashville Female Academy, which was located within walking distance of their home. Two of her daughters became teachers.
Description:
Ann was at an unidentified female academy in Nashville where she stitched her sampler under the instruction of Mrs. Harrell. Her sampler is similar to Emily May’s sampler (TSS 106) that was made at Mr. and Mrs. Hunt’s Female Academy in Goodlettsville in 1834. The Academy was defunct by 1843, but Mrs. Harrell may have taught there at one time.
