Biography:
Sarah Jane Hoskins (1834-1911), known as Sallie, was the fourth of eight children born to John Ellington Hoskins and Nancy Malone North. Her parents migrated from Virginia to Tennessee sometime before 1824 and settled in Bedford Co. near Shelbyville. John Hoskins was a farmer. Sallie married Theoderick A. Moore about 1852 and gave birth to four children. After husband died she remarried to Granville Smith Barnes and had two more children.
Description:
It is not known where Sallie made her sampler, but she may have attended the nearby Shelbyville Female Academy, which had been in operation since 1825.
