Biography:
Eliza A. Folwell (1822-1909) was the daughter of John Folwell and Catherine March. According to the census records, she had one sister and two brothers. Arabella Folwell, who married Jesse W. Page in 1831, was most likely her sister. Her brothers may have been Samuel Folwell and William M. Folwell. Eliza married Capt. Robert Graham in 1838. They moved to New Orleans in the 1840s, then to Shreveport, Caddo Parish, LA. By 1860 they had returned to Tennessee and were living in Memphis. They had four children.

Eliza’s impressive sampler retains her original vibrant colors. It is well balanced, carefully stitched, and proudly identified as her work in the bottom cartouche.
