Biography:
Margaret R. Porter (1825-1911) was likely the daughter of Robert Porter and Elizabeth Singleton. She made her sampler under the instruction of Mary E. Spillman, possibly at the Sketchley Female Academy in Maryville. She married Thomas Croyn Brabson and moved to Knox County.
Description:
Margaret ’s border of queen stitches is very impressive. Beading is unusual for Tennessee samplers.
