Biography:
Mary E. Massey (1842-1922) was the only daughter born to Joseph H. Massey and Emily G. Carter. Her father was a farmer. Mary may have painted her theorem at the Lewisburg Female Academy, founded in 1838. Mary’s family moved frequently during her lifetime.
Description:
The TSS occasionally uncovers theorems in our fieldwork. The painting was accomplished with the aid of stencils. Mary’s name appears twice on the theorem, along with the name Jack.
